Job Summary

University Information Technology (UIT) has an opening for a temporary position to support our Common Infrastructure Services department. This is an entry-level position at the University of Utah. The job will consist of assisting the Cable/Fiber teams in the installation or removal of data/fiber optic cabling from buildings, conduits, and manholes.

University Information Technology, the central IT service provider for campus, reports to the Chief Information Officer and is responsible for many of the University of Utah’s most critical common IT resources including the campus network; the Campus Information Services (CIS) portal; UMail, telephone, and online collaboration services; high performance and research computing; information security; teaching and learning technologies; software licensing; and a host of other systems and applications. Installation or removal of data or fiber optic cabling from buildings, conduits, and manholes. This position may also include taking physical inventory of cabling within and between buildings, conduits, and manholes.

Minimum Qualifications

This is an entry level position. The ability to distinguish colors, lift 50 pounds, work on ladders and in confined spaces and possess a valid Utah Driver’s license is required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communications skills are also required.

Previous related work experience installing and terminating voice and data cabling preferred.
