Job Summary

The Unified Communications facilities coordinator (also known as “Account Executive”) oversees the deployment activities of multiple University Information Technology (UIT) products and services, including voice, data, wireless, and video services for sites on and off campus. This person consults with University entities to prepare recommendations for services and products that meet customer needs within their budgets.

Located in Salt Lake City, in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, the University of Utah is the flagship institution of the State of Utah’s system of higher education and a member of the PAC-12 Conference. Salt Lake City combines the amenities of a major metropolitan area of more than one million people with the friendliness and ease of living of a small, Western city. Seven major ski resorts are within an hour’s drive from campus, and opportunities to pursue activities from biking to hiking to fishing abound. Salt Lake is also home to the Utah Symphony and Opera, the Utah Ballet, several professional sports teams, and a wide range of other cultural and recreational activities.

University Information Technology, the central IT service provider for campus, reports to the Chief Information Officer and is responsible for many of the University of Utah’s most critical common IT resources including the campus network; the Campus Information Services (CIS) portal; UMail, telephone, and online collaboration services; high performance and research computing; information security; teaching and learning technologies; software licensing; and a host of other systems and applications. Responsibilities

• Engage with campus customers to fully understand and document their needs and business requirements, and determine which UIT products meet those needs within their budget
• Communicate customer technical requirements to UIT groups, and identify the UIT resources needed to support projects
• Present recommendations, including cost proposals, to department administration
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail
• Enthusiastic interest in staying abreast of workplace technologies, trends, and business expectations
• Maintain an energetic and proactive attitude
• Represent UIT in new-construction customer planning cycles
• Coordinate installation of UIT products and services
• Mitigate compatibility complications when combining state-of-the-art technology with existing infrastructure and services
• Aid department IT staff with the selection and implementation of physical layer data connections for both inter- and intra-building connections
• Assist in defining appropriate service level agreement expectations
• Escalate issues when needed
• Balance customers’ needs with University and UIT standards, architectures, and goals

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalency required (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Three years directly related experience. Commitment to provide excellent customer service, planning and analytical skills required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communications skills also required. Technical expertise in related area may be required in some areas.

DEPARTMENT MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalency required (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Three years directly related experience. Commitment to provide excellent customer service, planning and analytical skills required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communications skills also required. An ability to understand new and various technologies and their dependencies at a high level is required.

• Knowledge of building wiring, local area networks, and fiber optic and data networks
• Proven ability to understand how technical decisions relate to business expectations and vice versa
