Job Summary

The Systems Administrator is expected to work as a team member to support the computing needs for both desktop and server support. Support includes: recommending hardware and software; building and rebuilding computers with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems; troubleshooting and resolving computer, network, printer and active directory connectivity issues; peer training of departmental staff on special software, hardware and procedures; PDA and/or phone configuration; documentation; configuring group policy and preference management in active directory; disk rights and allocation; computing needs assessment and consultation; disk imaging; remote connection management; server support; virus or malware identification, removal and cleaning; machine update, patch, upgrade and other support and maintenance activities as needed. This position requires a continued learning effort for supporting new software and technology for different client needs across campus.

Located in Salt Lake City, in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, the University of Utah is the flagship institution of the State of Utah’s system of higher education and a member of the PAC-12 Conference. University Information Technology, the central IT service provider for campus, reports to the Chief Information Officer and is responsible for many of the University of Utah’s most critical common IT resources including the campus network; the Campus Information Services (CIS) portal; UMail, telephone, and online collaboration services; high performance and research computing; information security; teaching and learning technologies; software licensing; and a host of other systems and applications. Responsibilities

• Position will manage IT needs for the Athletics Department and their staff, students, athletes and events.
• Must be available for a variable schedule to attend and manage IT at Athletics events on a routine basis as well as be available outside of normal business hours for client needs and server & desktop upgrades or updates.
• Set up and support real-time statistical analysis and scoring system/network for press and in-house media during athletic events.
• Responsible for maintaining and supporting desktop, laptop, server, iPad, cell phone, network connectivity, software, disk storage arrays and other hardware.
• Proficient with MS Windows and Macintosh computer operating systems.
• Responsible for writing, maintaining and implementing active directory group policies and group preferences.
• Position will be required to conduct patch management and upgrades to server environments as well as desktop environment.
• Responsible for developing and managing Citrix, LanDesk, SCCM, Active Directory and PCI environment systems for point of sale, statistical analysis, software and hardware management, inventory control, security, and policy management.
• Responsible for reviewing and creating documentation of support procedures.
• Must be able to learn new applications, analyze the interconnections and support the end user and the server implementation of these applications.
• Position requires travel to on- and off-campus locations using personal vehicle for IT support.
• Position may be required to carry an on-call pager in a rotation with other team members.
• Expected to work autonomously with minimal administrative direction.

Minimum Qualifications

DEPARTMENT’S MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in related information systems area or equivalency required, plus 2 years of experience.
• Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the job summary.
• Excellent customer support and customer relations skills with a professional demeanor.
• Extensive experience with setup, maintenance, configuration and support of Microsoft Windows operating systems, MS Office products, Adobe products, Macintosh OS, and best practices for both server and desktop.
• Experience with technical writing and writing end user procedure or instructional documentation.
• Experience with active directory structure and the configuration of group policies and group preferences.

Preferences

• 5 years of experience in desktop hardware & software support, troubleshooting and resolution.
• Experience with configuration and maintenance of Citrix Sever, SpiceWorks, SCCM, and LanDesk.
• MS SQL database administration.
ITIL Foundation Certification.
• A+, MCSE, CCNA, Network+, or other applicable certifications.
• Experience with VM server environments running both Windows and Linux server platforms.
