The Department of Educational Psychology ( in the College of Education at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the department’s Counseling and Counseling Psychology (CCP) program. The CCP program is comprised of an APA accredited doctoral program in Counseling Psychology and masters’ programs that lead to licensure in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. The Department of Educational Psychology is comprised of 21 tenured or tenure-track faculty (five in the CCP program) and over 200 masters and doctoral degree-seeking students. The University of Utah is the state’s flagship research institution and emphasizes exceptional scholarship, quality teaching, and professional service. The CCP program seeks candidates with established research agendas in any substantive area of counseling psychology, but is especially interested in candidates with applied research in the areas of diversity and multiculturalism, the treatment and development of LGBTQ individuals, the role of technology in therapist training and practice (especially related to reducing rural and racial/ethnic minority disparities), as well as innovative work on the process and outcome of counseling interventions in schools and the community.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an active research program that has the potential to attract extramural funding and will possess a commitment to mentoring and teaching at the graduate level. In addition to research, the successful candidate will be expected to provide graduate-level instruction in both the doctoral and masters programs; advise and mentor master’s and doctoral students; supervise graduate student clinical work; participate in faculty governance; and collaborate with other faculty in promoting the continued success of our three graduate counseling programs. Faculty members in the CCP program teach four graduate courses per year.

Applicants for this position must hold a doctorate in Counseling Psychology or similar from an APA accredited program. Candidates must demonstrate potential for excellence in research and potential to successfully compete for extramural grant funding. The candidate should also possess a strong identity as a scientist practitioner with the ability to provide training to students across programs in some important aspect of clinical service (including but not limited to professional ethics, assessment, and/or various forms of counseling, e.g., Cognitive Behavioral, Interpersonal, Feminist Multicultural, Mindfulness Based Interventions, Vocational Counseling, or other established treatment modalities). In addition to a strong commitment to research, the Department of Educational Psychology and the CCP program faculty are committed to teaching and to mentorship that acknowledges and supports the diverse backgrounds and needs of students, colleagues, and members of the community. The starting date for the position is August 16, 2018. Salary will be competitive based on a nine-month schedule, with opportunities for summer teaching available.
