Job Summary

This position will serve the University community through assistance with the Marriott Library’s 3D printers, scanners, virtual reality equipment, and other technologies. The applicant will submit 3D printing jobs, and will be expected to learn printer calibration and maintenance processes. The applicant will work with patrons to teach 3D design and preparation for 3D printing, and will provide on-demand assistance for the Marriott Library’s 3D printers. The applicant will also learn to 3D scan physical objects using the Library’s 3D scanning equipment, and will help patrons to do the same. The applicant will develop expertise in the use of various Virtual Reality platforms, and will help new users develop an understanding of current generation VR equipment.

Responsibilities

Inspect, evaluate, and troubleshoot 3D models submitted by University affiliates.

Provide consultations for students, faculty, and staff on 3D media projects.

Develop proficiency with the various types of 3D media equipment offered by the Marriott Library.

Undestand design principles, preparation and submission of 3D print jobs on desktop 3D printers.

Provide assistance with circulation, setup, and configuration of 3D media equipment such as 3D printers, 3D scanners, and virtual reality kits.

Create learning materials using the Marriott Library’s media production studios to help orient new users to library services.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of computer operations experience or equivalency required; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required. Previous customer service experience is preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

Prior experience with 3D printing preferred. Training in 3D design software preferred. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and develop processes related to use of technology. Ability to create and deliver learning content in a variety of formats including in-person and video.
