Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Employer Engagement, the Employer Engagement Specialist (EES) fills a critical role as part of the Employer Engagement (EE) team within the University of Utah’s Career & Professional Development Center (CPDC). The EES is responsible for establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with corporate recruiters/hiring managers for a minimum of 4 specific employment sectors/industries. With input from our team of student-facing Career Coaches, the EES will strategically lead efforts in identifying, developing, cultivating and engaging employers through a variety of methods including site visits, on-campus programming, event engagement, electronic correspondence, phone calls, etc. The EES will also serve as the primary point of contact between these employers and the CPDC and will be responsible for developing a deep knowledge about industry trends, employer needs, internships, on-campus recruiting opportunities, national recruiting trends and best practices that relate to their assigned industries. The EES must have a commitment to diversity and inclusion as part of the mission of the University of Utah.

Responsibilities

The duties of the EES will be focused on 4 primary areas as outlined below:

1. Strategic Outreach
Based on industry assignments the EES will:
- Identify new/ growing employers and work toward establishing a connection between the University of Utah and that company.
- Be knowledgeable about employers who are currently active in recruiting (attending on-campus events, recruiting at Career Fairs, participating in specialized programming, etc.) at the University of Utah.
- Work to develop and deepen relationships with University of Utah alumni at companies within assigned industries.
- Represent the University of Utah and the CPDC in professional associations and networking groups that align with assigned industries.
- Lead-out on developing “target” and “key” employers through site visits, phone/email communication, presentations and otherwise leveraging social media and technology.

2. Communication
The EES will be responsible for:
- Providing strong and timely written and verbal communication to stakeholders about why and how to recruit at the University of Utah.
- Coordinating a regularly occurring meeting with industry-related Career Coaches to share new information and receive feedback on new developments/trends/questions.
- Translating employer information to Career Coaching staff and students in meaningful and actionable ways.
- Explaining University, departmental, national association and federal policies and laws related to college recruiting and internships.
- Coordinating with corresponding Career Coaches and Corporate Outreach representatives within the Eccles School of Business.
- Identifying current gaps in stakeholder (primarily employer) information and initiating production of the needed content (written and otherwise).

3. Event Planning and Support
Based on alignment between industry and academic majors, the EES will:
- Collaborate with Career Coaches in developing and executing programming including, but not limited to panels, site visits, workshops, mock interviews, classroom presentations, resume review days, etc.
- Be responsible for communicating with and confirming employers for the above-mentioned programming.
- Take an active role in scheduling, recruiting for, and planning departmental programming such as Career Fairs and employer information sessions.
- Participate in and support applicable state-wide and regional programming.

4. Reporting and Tracking
The EES will:
- Document significant employer interactions in a timely and accurate manner through our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software (Symplicity).
- Track “target” and “key” employer progression through established metrics.
- Provide information to supplement the departmental end of year report including reports on new companies recruiting on-campus, total number of employers represented from assigned industries, student event attendance, etc.
- Actively participate in all staff meetings and Employer Engagement team meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or a related field, or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

Department Specific Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years industry experience in HR, recruiting or related field
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity; ability to create and manage an organizational environment that fosters such diversity
- Experience working in or with career services offices in higher education
- Proven success in relationship management and event planning experience
- Ability to increase competency and depth of knowledge about job opportunities and trends within industry assignments
- Strong presentation skills; written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and as a team player with CPDC staff and other departmental stakeholders (students, faculty, employers, etc.)
- Effective problem-solver
- Ability to effectively manage large and complex workloads
- Ability to generate assessment, understand data, and incorporate findings to shape decisions
- Able to align tasks, priorities, and new ideas into departmental strategic plan
- Aptitude for learning and mastering new forms of technology

Preferences

- Master’s in business, public policy, human resources, counseling, education or relevant industry experience plus 1-2 years’ related experience in recruiting, training, fundraising or other applied discipline
- Prior Career Center experience in employer relations and outreach; familiarity with best practices, ethics and resources outlined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE)
- Experience working with customer relationship management (CRM) system (Symplicity);
- Familiarity with federal regulations and learning objective standards as they relate to employment and internships
- Takes initiative to provide customized support for constituents; suggests new ideas and solutions to improve service and efficiency within parameters of department plans and priorities
