Job Summary

Provide key project and supervisory support for the Assistant Head of Digital Operations. This includes leading a small team of part-time technicians, acting as liaison with clients when projects are launched, and staying current on latest technologies, equipment, and techniques.

This individual will be responsible for duplicating analog formats to digital formats as well as duplicating a number of analog media to various digital formats. Develop software and prototypes of for Digital Library projects that will benefit the Digital Library content management software development and data migration efforts. This may entail technical planning, development, integration, verification, validation, and support for software tools and applications. This individual will be required to coordinate projects with various library departments, University clients, and clients external to campus in a professional and timely manner

Responsibilities

Organize, coordinate and launch client related digital production projects and processes. This may entail dealing with various library departments, University clients, and clients external to campus in a professional and timely manner.

Supervise/oversee a small team of technicians and their production projects related to digitization processes.

Produce, edit, organize and load digital objects into digital asset database. Manage projects concerning specialized equipment (e.g., specialized digitization equipment and software). The production process includes, but is not limited to:

Digitizing film and analog audio formats and transferring it to digital files and various digital and analog media, including DVD, VHS and Mini DV tape.

Digitizing older video and audio analog formats and creating preservation grade files, as well as formats suitable for online web access.
Transferring material (paper, photographs, newspapers, etc.) to digital format.

The organization process includes, but is not limited to:
Digitizing various analog formats and transferring to digital files using sophisticated equipment and software.

Creating preservation grade files, as well as formats suitable for online, web access.

Organizing the analog and digital items in a coherent manner and ensuring that damaged and/or fragile material receive proper conservation treatments.

Developing timelines, schedules and processes. Applying adequate Quality Control measures.

Ensuring timely completion of projects.

Meeting customer specifications and staying within budget.

Update existing and participate in development of new scalable tools to help with development of the digital library’s content management system and data migration. Conduct pilot projects. Hand off projects to production team.

Train staff and other users on digitization processes, software, and equipment, related to all digitization processes and techniques
Other duties and projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, English or related field or equivalency; and two years professional experience in providing media-related services required. Specific skills in photography, editing and writing, and/or video and audio production may be required. Strong interpersonal communications skills and a commitment to provide excellent customer service essential.

Preferences

Experience in working with varied and changing technologies.

Background in working with digital content management systems.

Working knowledge of camera and lighting techniques, and familiarity with editing hardware and software.

Solid time management, planning, organization, and communication skills. Demonstrated leadership, project management and training skills.

Ability to transport, assemble, maintain, and repair equipment used in multimedia production.

Demonstrated proficiency and capability with information technology systems in the context of an academic Library

Reading, writing, or speaking skills in a second language
