Job Summary

The Manuscripts division is seeking a curious, motivated and enthusiastic student to help arrange and describe archival collections. Our division houses one-of-a-kind documents from a wide variety of persons including politicians, river-runners, scientists, housewives, community activists, religious leaders and everyone in between. It is the work of a Manuscripts Processor to make these items accessible to researchers. Responsibilities

This position is responsible for arranging and describing archival collections according to current best practices and standards. This task includes surveying the entire collection to identify major subjects, determining an organizational structure for the items, re-foldering and re-housing items and creating a finding aid to make the collections accessible.

Manuscripts processors will also provide reference service in the Special Collections Reading Room and ensure the proper handling of materials. They will also assist in picking up new acquisitions, retrieving and re-shelving materials and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Six months clerical or customer service experience required; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
