Job Summary

University Information Technology (UIT) has an opening for a senior Systems Engineer position within the Software Platform Services – Facilities IT Support team. This position is responsible for providing systems administration/engineering, database administration, and application administration support for Facilities related systems.

- Designs, installs, configures, administers, troubleshoots, tunes/optimizes, secures, and maintains highly-available and scalable server, database, and application solutions following best practices and standards
- Develops data models, ETL packages, and reports for the University’s badge access system
- Ensures data is being collected and recorded appropriately through integration points between systems, other integrated services, data systems, and environments; resolves any errors or issues which arise
- Performs routine and system maintenance including hardware and software installation, upgrades, system recovery, and performance tuning to ensure security compliance with system health.
- Provides systems and equipment technology assessment, system performance analysis, and system integration planning
- Manages, monitors, and tests backups for responsible systems
- Designs/develops, tests, and implements automated administrative tasks
- Monitors capacity and analyzes information concerning processing time, response times, application/software, etc. for future growth and proactively informs management of potential areas of concerns, makes recommendations, and provides capacity planning/metric reports
- Collaborates with service owners to configure applications that meet the business needs
- Conducts technical evaluations on new products and features and provides recommendations and directions for implementation
- Creates and maintains technical documentation on critical processes and standards
- On-call required

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in area of specialty, or equivalency; and 4-6 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Experience with the following desired:
MS SQL Server:
Deploying and maintaining highly-available MS SQL Server (2008 R2 and above) environments.

Data warehouse:
Developing data models.
Developing and implementing SSIS packages and SSRS reports.

• MS Windows System Administration (2008 and above)
• Experience working with virtualized servers (VMWare)
• MS Remote Desktop Services administration a plus
• Oracle DBA experience a plus
