Job Summary

This position is responsible for driving value and strategic investment in Unified Communications (UC) technologies deployed at the University of Utah. In addition, this position has responsibility for management of teams delivering the day-to-day system operations; new installations and upgrades of all communications-related systems; expansion and delivery of new functionality; contract integrity reviews of unified communication service providers; vendor performance evaluations; and budget compliance. The Associate Director acts as a consultant to administrators, IT leadership, and user departments, ensuring that communications solutions and technologies are strategic and viable, and that best practice is achieved. The incumbent should be versed in delivering business cases and strategic plans.

The Associate Director provides management, oversight, and evaluation for the unified communications teams including engineering and operations roles. This position is responsible for effective resource management and correlation of costs to revenue sources and working with the finance and product management teams to define effective cost models. The incumbent will be accountable for capital and expense budget creation, day-to-day maintenance, project management, equipment procurement, and security services for the corporate and distributed telecommunications environment.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Oversee the implementation/integration of unified communications technology and software. applications to deliver best practice solutions to support academic, administrative, patient care, and revenue cycle initiatives.
• Oversee all aspects of service delivery, including satisfactory performance of all applications supporting daily operations.
• Manage departmental budget performance.
• Evaluate current communication technologies and vendor proposals for additional IT solutions; assure high level of technical design accuracy and system integration.
• Design, develop and document appropriate procedures for work groups, ensuring compliance to all department and university standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related computer science area, or equivalency required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required.

• Minimum 10 years of experience in critical IT services delivery
• Minimum 5 years of managerial experience
• Certification in ITIL (e.g. ITIL foundations v 3.0)
