Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, responsible for planning, organizing, directing research administration and business functions within the Division of Epidemiology and the Study Design and Biostatistics Center (SDBC). Responsible for oversight of multiple programs within the division including internal and external collaborations, staffing and financial management operations pertaining to areas including (but not limited to) academic, research, health sciences, and community outreach. Acts as a catalyst between the SDBC and its customers and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.

Responsibilities

1. Provide general research administration with an emphasis on pre-award grants and contracts proposal preparation in Cayuse, Grants.Gov and other agency formats.
2. Working effectively with investigators and staff to meet the terms and conditions of specific awards and comply with applicable University, State and Federal regulations (i.e. OMB Uniform Guidance).
3. Manage multiple projects simultaneously while providing excellent service and meeting deadlines.
4. Ability to work independently, move projects and issues to completion, and demonstrate a service orientation.
5. Supervise and assist with IRB submission and complex amendments, maintain IRB protocols, RGE protocols and consent forms.

6. Forecasts, develops and implements policies and procedures in the areas of customer service, staffing and budgetary goals and objectives that are consistent with University of Utah’s policies.
7. Prepare financial projections for SDBC recharge service.
8. Markets and promotes new and existing programs and services to internal and external customers.
9. Participates in University-wide committees to establish internal standards and administrative plans and policies.
10. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships to provide biostatistics services.
11. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing complaints, concerns and suggestions and providing appropriate follow-through.
12. Utilize database skills to develop reports and troubleshoot database.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency and 4 – 6 years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of assigned department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.

Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

Preferences

Statistical knowledge with the ability to represent the SDBC.
Strong skills in Excel, Access and/or other data management tools is preferred.
University of Utah experience preferred, especially with University of Utah department administration functions (e.g. budgeting, accounting, payroll, etc.).
