Job Summary

Postdoctoral and PhD student positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Katsu Funai at the Diabetes & Metabolism Research Center in the University of Utah. The trainees will contribute to NIH-funded biomedical research broadly focused on mammalian phospholipid biochemistry. Using cell culture and genetically-modified mouse models, the qualified candidate will study how mitochondrial membrane phospholipids contribute to metabolic health in multiple tissues.

Postdoctoral Fellow: The desired applicant will have a PhD in molecular biology or related field with experience in mouse metabolic phenotyping. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in mitochondrial biology or lipid biochemistry/mass spectrometry. During the first year in the laboratory the candidate will write individual postdoctoral fellowship applications to appropriate funding agencies.

PhD Student: The applicant will have a degree in biological sciences with prior laboratory experience in molecular biology. Preference will be given to those with experience in mouse handling.
