Job Summary

Serve students, staff, and faculty in the Knowledge Commons, the Marriott Library’s central service point for technology and reference assistance, as well as in the Union and Benchmark computer labs. Work with a team of students and library staff to answer questions in a variety of areas including campus and library services, research, computer software, printing, mobile device configuration, classroom support, and equipment checkout.

Responsibilities

Provide students, staff, and faculty with technology assistance, library information, and basic research assistance, including accessing electronic journals and research databases. Duties include assisting with printing, scanning, various software, and wireless laptop setup. Employees also assist with classroom and lab media equipment, circulate equipment, and assist patrons with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of computer operations experience or equivalency required; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required. Previous customer service experience is preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

Basic knowledge of PCs and Macs, including experience with Windows and OS X operating systems, printing, Microsoft Office, web browsers, and peripherals. Familiarity with various media and media equipment. Willingness to learn new skills. Ability to troubleshoot issues on one’s own and by working with coworkers, supervisors, and librarians.

Helpful but not required: Knowledge of library research, scanning, video editing, Linux, or statistical software.
