Position Summary: The University of Utah College of Nursing seeks an experienced biostatistician, communicator, and leader to for the position of Director, Applied Statistics. This position entails a faculty appointment and involvement in doctoral education as well as management of statistical resources, and consultation/ collaboration with faculty in a dynamic, multidisciplinary research environment. Faculty areas of research emphasis include caregiving, cancer prevention and control, aging and/or palliative care, symptom management, informatics, health disparities, chronic illness, women’s health, and research ethics. Principal Functions and Responsibilities: The Director, Applied Statistics will serve as a full-time faculty member in the tenure or career line. The Director will lead and supervise the statistical support team, which includes hiring, assignments, career development, performance monitoring and improvement, resource management, delegation, and program planning and evaluation. The Director will collaborate with students and faculty in the conceptualization and development of statistical research methods and design, writing, implementation, and dissemination of research projects. Current faculty studies incorporate linear and generalized mixed effects, multilevel, and item- response theory models, and Bayesian as well as classical inferential approaches. The Director will also participate in teaching and curriculum design for basic statistics core courses to PhD students. Other faculty expectations will include administration, service, supervision of doctoral students, and/or teaching electives.

Criteria: The successful candidate will have earned a research doctorate in biostatistics or a related field. Candidates will have experience in behavioral sciences or biobehavioral research, teaching statistics, a demonstrated record of participation in externally funded research, capacity to foster collaboration and innovation with nursing researchers and interdisciplinary teams, and the ability to successfully lead the statistics team. Candidates should have evidence of scholarly publications in refereed journals and demonstrated ability to generate and participate in extramural funding in one or more of the priority areas. Academic track, rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
