The University of Utah’s Ethnic Studies Division (ES) is seeking to hire a teaching faculty member at the rank of assistant or associate professor (lecturer), beginning Fall 2018. This is a non-tenure track position intended to be a long-term position within the University’s Career-Line Faculty structure, with a renewable contract and multi-year appointments.
Ethnic Studies at the University of Utah, founded in 1976, is an interdisciplinary division housed in the newly established School for Cultural and Social Transformation, with current faculty drawn from fields and disciplines in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, social work, arts, and education. The School for Cultural and Social Transformation gives Ethnic Studies the opportunity to work collaboratively with a variety of academic and non-academic units.
Seeking to build upon and sustain the success of its collaborative recruitment and retention efforts with the Center for Ethnic Student Affairs (CESA), ES is looking to hire a teaching faculty member who will provide and coordinate instructional support and assist with co-curricular activities for the first-year Diversity Scholars and transfer Diversity Scholars programs. Candidates must hold a terminal degree, preferably a Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies or a related discipline. Senior candidates must demonstrate a record of outstanding teaching; junior candidates must demonstrate the potential for teaching excellence.
Candidates should also be knowledgeable about Community Engaged Learning practices and demonstrate a collaborative orientation through examples of team teaching and co- curricular programming. The primary responsibilities are: fall semester team teaching as the lead faculty member; spring semester teaching; assisting of co-curricular development with CESA for the first-year Diversity Scholars program; and fall semester teaching and assisting co-curricular development with CESA for the transfer Diversity Scholars program. Other service obligations may be assigned by the Division Chair. This position does not include research expectations.
